As a cemetery, we are not run or funded by government or a council. Ballarat General Cemeteries Trust relies on funds that we raise ourselves, and all of it is devoted to maintain and enhance our cemeteries: we don’t make a profit.
Keeping the history and beauty of Ballarat General Cemeteries alive requires a strong community effort, and you can play a part.
Legacies and donations
When it comes to providing a place to remember, and be remembered, our local community wants and deserves the very best. A bequest is a very effective way of making a gift to Ballarat General Cemeteries and any contribution, large or small, helps ensure the preservation of history and nurturing of our beautiful, distinctive environments.
Community Advisory Committee
Ballarat Cemeteries’ Community Advisory Committee (CAC) helps us understand what matters to the people and communities we serve. It gives community members an opportunity to share their experiences, ideas and concerns and help shape the future of cemetery services in Ballarat.
The committee provides advice and guidance to the Ballarat General Cemeteries Trust. Its feedback helps ensure community and client views are considered when we plan services, develop strategies, improve operations and review policies.
What does the committee do?
The CAC provides feedback on specific projects, strategic priorities and proposed policy changes. Members may discuss how cemetery services are delivered, identify changing community needs and suggest ways we can improve our engagement with families, clients and the wider community.
Consultation may take place through face-to-face or online meetings, email discussions or surveys. Feedback and recommendations are recorded and reported to the Trust Board for consideration in its planning and decision-making.
Who can participate?
We want the committee to reflect Ballarat’s diverse community. This includes people of different ages, cultures, religions, abilities, experiences and backgrounds.
Participants may include cemetery clients, representatives of community organisations, people living near Ballarat New Cemetery and other community members interested in our services. Members must be at least 18 years old and will receive an induction and support during their appointment.
No specialist cemetery knowledge is required. We value people who are willing to listen, share their views and help make our services more responsive, inclusive and accessible.
Members are expected to respect the privacy and confidentiality of families, clients and other participants. Any conflict of interest must also be declared.
