Miss Matilda Gent. (1866 – 1937)
Born at Eganstown to Robert & Matilda Neill in 1866.
Matilda was one of ten children with her being the second eldest.
Her dedication to her nursing role was acknowledged in 1938 bearing the inscription “Loving Tribute Matron Gent, 1902-1937, A Noble Life,” a mural tablet was unveiled at the Ballarat Benevolent Home for her “35 years of service with the last 15 as Matron and was affectionately remembered by all with whom she came in contact with”.
